Robert D. Edwards, a life-long resident of New Philadelphia, died early Monday morning, December 29, 2003, at Union Hospital in Dover. He was 75.A son of the late Clayton and Lucille Robeson Edwards, Bob was born in New Philadelphia on September 20, l928, and was a l946 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.He served in the United States Army Field Artillery as a forward observer during the Korean War and achieved the rank of sergeant before his honorable discharge.A self-employed contractor, Bob retired in l979 and was able to spend more time hunting, shooting sporting clays, and searching for antiques. His favorite times, however, were those spent with his grandson and namesake, Brandon Robert.Bob will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years, the former Maxine Sottoria; daughter and son-in-law, Robinette and E.J. Robson of Mineral City; grandson, Brandon; sister, Beverly (Fred) Turner; brothers, Gerald, Clayton “Clair”, and Paul (Ruth) Edwards; and his special German Shorthair Pointer, Flash.He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lillian Burrier.Services to celebrate Bob’s life will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Steve Bailey of the First United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at 3:00 pm at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may call on the family prior to the service beginning at 1:00 pm. Local cremation will be under the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia.
