Robert D. Alexander, 90, of Dover, died Thursday, October 10, 2002, at Union Hospital in Dover.Born in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Harry Brown and Anna Maria Witte Alexander. He was a 1930 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and in 1944, he and his wife opened the Office Appliance Company. After retirement in 1977, he took great pride in maintaining a beautiful yard. Bob was a former member of the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce and was active in the Dover Lions Club. In 1993, he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship, the highest achievement bestowed to a member in the Lions organization. Bob was also a very active member of the First Christian Church of New Philadelphia, sitting on numerous committees and holding many positions.Bob is survived by his wife, Hazel Oneida Craig, whom he married on August 19, 1939 in Dover; a daughter, Judi (Gene) Baumgarner of Eugene, Oregon; a granddaughter, Julie Anna of Eugene, Oregon; a brother, Harry (Jean) Alexander of Florida; a sister, Helen Alexander of Indiana; a sister-in-law, Ruth Alexander of Cincinnati, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Fred and two sisters-in-law, Della and Jolan Alexander.A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 14, 2002, at 12:30 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Family and friends are invited to the Geib Family Center following the committal for a luncheon. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
