Robert C. Wood, 76, New Philadelphia, died Thursday, November 6, 2003 at Union Hospital with his family at his bedside.A son of the late Oliver and Caroline Froelich Wood, Robert was born on June 14, l927, in Dover, Ohio.He joined the United States Navy in l945, and was aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Midway on her maiden voyage. He received an honorable discharge in l947.A 38-year employee of Union Camp in Dover, he retired on April 1, 1990. Following his retirement, he worked part-time at Wood Electric.Bob especially enjoyed being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, cherishing his time with the family he loved. He coached little league teams, leading two to championship seasons, and always attended sporting events in which his family participated. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and browsing at yard sales.He was a member of the Tuscarawas VFW.Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Jeannette Stephens; a daughter, Debra Kay (Thomas) Miller of New Philadelphia; sons, Robert Steven (Darlene)Wood of Dover, Harry Dee (Chris) Wood of Strasburg, and Larry Lee (Lisa) Wood of Dover; nine grandchildren, Brock “B.J.” (Traci) Miller, Jenny Miller (Clinton) Armstrong, Mark Miller, Stephanie Wood (David) Herington, Eric (Erica) Matheny, Hollie Wood, Eric Wood, Nathan Wood, and Alex Wood; three great-grandchildren, Hannah and Brooke Miller and Ethan Matheny; a sister, Margaret Angus of Dover; a brother, Larry G. Wood of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, a sister, Jean Penrod, an infant granddaughter, Angel Miller, and two brothers-in-law, Donald Angus and Max “Whitey” Penrod.Services will be Saturday, November 8, 2003 at 4:00 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Pastor David Wing officiating. A reception at the Geib Family Center will follow the service. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday from 1 to 4 PM. Cremation will be under the care and direction of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia.Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, P.O.
