Robert A. Boyd, Jr., 100, of Dover, died Monday, January 4, 2016 at Park Village Health Care Center at Dover.
Born August 27, 1915 in New Philadelphia, OH he was the son of the late Robert A. Boyd, Sr. and Wilma (Engelhart) Boyd.
He was a graduate of Dover High School class of 1934 and was the last living member of the Dover 1933 Ohio high school state champion basketball team. He retired in 1978 as Traffic Manager for the former Joy Manufacturing Company following 32 years of service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dover and a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
He is survived by a nephew, David Pfisterer of Findlay, OH; two nieces, Ann Anzelmo of Columbus, OH and Barbara Pfisterer of Williston, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Pfisterer and his wife of 59 years, Helen E. (Saffell) Boyd who passed away in October 1999.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the friends, who over the years visited, sent cards and performed other acts of kindness and the nurses, aids and staff of Park Village who cared so personally and lovingly for Bob during the last year of his life.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Robert’s life will follow at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. David St. Aubin officiating. Burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery.
