Robert A. Bigler, age 84, of Dover and formerly of Midvale, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008, in New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover.
Robert was born on June 26, 1924, a son of the late Victor R. and Margaret (Beichly) Bigler.
Robert was a graduate of New Philadelphia High School and soon thereafter enlisted into the United States Army. Following his release from active duty, Robert married the former Virginia “Ginny” Price and together the couple reared two children and celebrated a union that lasted for more than 60 years, prior to her passing in 2006.
Robert worked for the Whittaker-Greer Company for more than 35 years as a kiln operator prior to his retirement. Family man, avid card player, hard worker, channel surfer, and loving father are all things that one could describe Robert’s life. However, there are more as some may not know that he loved taking Sunday drives and enjoyed finding “off the beaten path” restaurants to stop and eat.
He is survived by his two children, Marcia J. Bigler of Dover and Robert A. Bigler, Jr. also of Dover; and a sister-in-law, Edith Bigler of New Philadelphia. Two granddaughters, Sara Bigler and Tennile Bigler, as well as numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Friends may call Tuesday, October 7, 2008, in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia one hour prior the 10:30 AM service that will be led by Pastor Larry Hostetler. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
Memorial contributions may be made to NewPointe Community Church, 3950 State Route 39, Dover, OH 44622.
