Robert Burr Morgan, Sr., age 86, of New Philadelphia, passed away in his home Saturday morning, May 24, 2008 at New Philadelphia.Born December 11, 1921, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Alfred Otto Morgan and Mildred E. (Childs) TannerBob became a student at the Swanee Military Academy in Tennessee at the age of 7 where he graduated from in 1939. He also furthered his education at Westminster College in Pennsylvania and Fenn College in Cleveland. Early in his career, he was a computer systems consultant in the early days of computer development. He most recently worked as a supervisor of Business System Design and Computer Operations for WS Tyler Inc. of Mentor, before retiring after 15 years of employment in 1985.During World War II, Bob honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Corp. He flew an A26 aircraft during the war and was also an advanced flying instructor. Other notable accomplishments while in the service include being a combat pilot in the Pacific and serving as a leader of the air transport in Korea at the end of the war.His devotion to his community was evident in the numerous capacities in which he served throughout his lifetime. Bob was a member of the Jaycees and the Rotary of Wickliffe. He was also a dedicated councilman for the city of Wickliffe and Lake County, where he served on the zoning committee and the Kirtland Development Committee. He and his wife, the former Anna Mae Greig, enjoyed participating with his fellow comrades in the American Legion Post #7, where held the position of commander.In addition to traveling the country and participating in Legion activities, Bob enjoyed golfing.Bob and Anna Mae were married on September 21, 1946 and together raised three children, Carol A. (husband, Richard) Oboczky and Robert B (wife Gerry) Morgan, Jr., all of New Philadelphia and Thomas A (Ellen) Morgan of Paris, France. Additionally, he is survived by his grandchildren, Dustin M. Morgan of Thompson, O., Melissa Huff of Delaware, O., Sandra Sefert and Douglas Oboczky, both of New Philadelphia; great-grandchildren, Ainsley Sefert and Alaina Mae Sefert, Raven and Reese Morgan, Alexis Nicole Huff, and Kaydence Oboczky; his sister, Nancy L. Morgan of Sparks, Nevada; and two cousins, Georgia Richards of Florida and John A. (Ruth) Kohr of Chardon, O.Visitation will be held on Monday, May 26, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Bob’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Hospice Chaplain Rick Brinsley officiating. Burial will follow the service at Ridgecrest Memory Gardens in Dover where New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 will render military honors. Friends and family are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home in New Philadelphia, where a meal will be shared following the committal service.The family requests memorial contributions be directed to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. 3rd St, Dover, O. 44622.
