Richard W. Powell, 100, of Wooster and formerly of Dover, died Monday, May 2, 2011 at Horn Nursing Center at Wooster.A son of the late Clyde Marion and Sophia Jo (Novak) Powell, Richard was born December 4, 1910 at Barnesville, Ohio.On December 1, 1942, Richard enlisted with the United States Navy. During his service to his country, he served in Japan and France during World War II. Richard received an honorable discharge on June 2, 1945.Richard was a retired diesel electrical foreman for the Penn Central Railroad. He was a member of the American Railway and Airway Supervisors Association and enjoyed gardening.He is survived by his niece, Sharon Powell of Buckhannon, West Virginia and a nephew, Thomas Clyde Powell.Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Arleen S. (Reed) Powell who passed away in 1996 and a nephew, Richard Lance Powell.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Richard’s life will follow in the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Rev. Hugh Berry officiating.
