Richard Wilson Hunter, Sr. age 69, of Cadiz and formerly of New Philadelphia died Wednesday, September, 19, 2012, in Harrison Community Hospital following a sudden illness.
A son of the late Everett R. and Helen M. (Haney) Hunter, Rich as he was known to family and friends, was born in Twin City Hospital at Dennison on October 12, 1942.
Rich grew up in Barnhill and attended Midvale High School. In 1964, Rich entered into the United States Air Force in June of 1964 and was stationed in Germany as a warehouse supply agent prior to his discharge in August of 1966.
During his time of service, Rich married the former Christine Bolon on June 26, 1965. As a couple they have reared three children and shared in 47 years of marriage.
For a number of years, He worked for the Y & O Coal Company at Hopedale, Ohio and later began a 25 year career as an independent truck driver working with the former Cargo Carriers and prior to retirement worked with American Transport.
In his free time, Rich enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing with his son, grandsons and granddaughter, reading and watching classic Western Movies on Television.
In addition to his wife, Rich is survived by three children, Ginelle (Randy) Breyer of Dover, Coreen (Tadd) Byers of New Philadelphia, and Richard (Traci) Hunter, Jr. of Cadiz; three sisters, Elizabeth (Russ) Jones of Youngstown, Betty Hunter of Brightwood, and Janet (Ralph) Tice of New Philadelphia.
Seven grandchildren, Cory Byers, Colt (fiancée, Amber Cady) Byers, Chase Byers, Jordan (fiancée, Rachel Moss) Miller, Kaylee Miller, Alexee Miller, and Logan Hunter and seven great-grandchildren, Zavier Byers, Blaze Byers, Kyah Byers, Kerah Byers, Koltin Byers, Ellie Miller and Joseph Miller complete the family.
Other survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law, with whom he was especially close, Mickey (Susan) Bolon, Randy (Rose) Bolon and Jody (Ida) Bolon all of Tuscarawas, Chip (Diane) Bolon of Tippecanoe, “Toots” (Rich) Brooks of Bolivar; a special cousin, Joyce Shimble of Bellaire, Ohio and numerous special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Rich was preceded in death by two brothers Daniel and William Hunter and two infant brothers.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Jim Borton will lead a funeral celebrating Rich’s life on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 10:30 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover. Following services, the family will return to the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home, where a meal and fellowship will be shared.
