Richard R. Scott, 77, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, June 13, 2005 at Morning View Care Center in New Philadelphia.A son of the late Roy E. and Bessie B. (Byers) Scott, Richard was born May 9, 1928 in New Philadelphia.He was a 1947 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. He retired from the Akron Beacon Journal after 23 years of service and was previously employed at the Times Reporter.Richard was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia Elks and the Sugar Hill Wild Life Club.He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Shirley J. (Grubb) Scott, whom he married October 23, 1948; two sons, Hugh Allen (Rebecca) Scott of Okala, Florida and Mark W. (Robin) Scott of Dover; two daughters, Vickie (Gary) Beach of New Philadelphia and Kay Ann (Tim) Bally of Gahanna, Ohio; six grandchildren, Darric M.Beach, Roy R. Beach, Marsha S. Scott, Scott T. Beach, Mellisa M. Bally and Bryan P. Bally; and three great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents.Visitation will be Thursday, June 16, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Richard’s life will be on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Rev. Dr. Steven Bailey officiating.Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. A memorial reception will be held at the Geib Family Center in New Philadelphia following the committal service.Memorial contributions honoring Richard’s life may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4815 Munson St. NW, Canton, OH 44718.
