Richard M. “Rich” Calai, 63, of Stone Creek, died Friday, August 8, 2003, at Union Hospital in Dover. Born in Uhrichsville on January 21, l940, he was the son of Margaret Freed Stansbery and the late Peter Calai, Sr., and was a l957graduate of Dover St. Joseph High School.Rich was a repairman at the General Motors Lordstown, Ohio plant for 37 years prior to his retirement in 2001, and a member of the United Auto Workers Union #1112.A skilled carpenter, bricklayer, and craftsman, Rich built an entire home for his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, concerts, and auto and motorcycle races and shows. He was a member of the Harley-Davidson Owners Group, and of the Ohio Archeology Society, and spent many hours collecting Indian artifacts. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a man of great faith and love, and will be missed by his mother, who resides in New Philadelphia; his daughter, Gigi Gibson of Mesa, AZ; his son, Gene (Denise) Calai of Olmstead Twp; grandchildren, Courtney and Krista Calai, and Dustin Gibson; sisters, Betty Calai, Romona Crall, and Annie (Alvin) DeNoon; brother, Peter Calai, Jr.; and his former wife, Marlene Geiser Calai of Austintown. Rich was preceded in death by his father, his step father, Leroy Stansbery and step-mother, Barbara Wright Calai.Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 12, 2003, from 2 Â? 4 PM and 7 Â? 9 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. Services will be conducted by Pastor Henry Mooney and Father William Arnold on Wednesday at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Following the service, friends are invited to share memories with the family at a reception in the Geib Family Center. Cremation will be under the care and direction of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia.Memorial contributions to honor Rich’s life may be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 210 W.
