Richard L. “Woody” Wood, 63, of New Philadelphia, died September 27, 2006, at Union Hospital.Woody was born in Dennison, Ohio, on March 6, 1943 to the late Howard A. and Nora K. Henry Wood. He was a 1961 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Woody entered the U.S. Army where he served his country during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1966. As a member of numerous clubs and organizations, he was especially fond of being the only honorary member of the fraternal order of Police, Tuscora Lodge #4. Around 1979 Woody had a vision and grew the New Phila VFW into what it is today, one of the best VFW’s in the state of Ohio with over 2100 members and still growing. Woody was a life member of the New Philadelphia Veterans of Foreign War Post 1445. Woody gave countless acts of support and monetary gifts to the New Philadelphia community. Like his father, he was an avid New York Yankees fan. Woody is survived by his family and numerous friends.A graveside service will be held, Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 1:30 pm at the East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Friends are invited to celebrate Woody’s life following the committal at the New Philadelphia V.F.W.
