Richard James Robinson, 71, of Canton, died Sunday, August 19, 2007 in Mercy Medical Center at Canton.Born March 12, 1936 in Parkersburg, West Virginia he was the son of Helen (Hinkle) Stewart of Canton and the late Lyle Stewart.After graduating from Liberal High School in Kansas, he continued his formal education studying management and engineering at Kansas University, Marquette University and Michigan State University. Richard’s professional career began with panhandle Eastern in 1955 where he worked for more than 20 years. During that time, he saw the completion of the helium plant in Liberal, Kansas. In 1974, he returned to Ohio and worked at Appalachian Exploration, inc. as the vice president. Most recently, he worked with the United States Postal Service.Richard will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Tisha (Mark) Carrothers of New Philadelphia and Debbie (Tracy) King of Liberal Kansas; his special friend, Roberta Martin of Canton; his granddaughter, Kassandra (Tyler) Westerman; his beloved cats, Squeak, Susie, and Pretty; his mother-in-law, Mary Brewington of Liberal, Kansas; and one sister.In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, the late Nancy Robinson, who he married December 14, 1956.A memorial reception will be held in the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home in New Philadelphia on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In keeping with Richard’s wishes, cremation will take place and inurnment will be alongside his wife in Kansas.
