Richard James “Dick” Foutz , 83, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 26, 2003. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a long-time area businessman.Born June 2, l920, in New Philadelphia, Richard was the son of James Howard and Effie Leggett Foutz. He graduated from New Philadelphia High School in l938 and later from Columbus Business University.Richard and his brother, H. Earl (Doc) Foutz were owner-operators of Foutz Stoves and Appliances, now Foutz Appliance Center, Inc., a business their father had founded on the current Tuscarawas Avenue site in l920. After Richard and his brother retired, the business was operated by Earl’s daughter and son-in-law, Sherril and Sam Peters; in January, 2000, Richard’s daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Tom McIntosh, assumed the operation.Richard was raised in the faith at First Christian Church and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #510. His great loves were fishing and travel, and he often combined the two to cast for the big ones at favorite fishing lodges on the French River in Canada.Richard is survived by his second wife, Clara Grandi-Foutz, whom he married June 22, l968; daughters, Barbara (Thomas) Foutz-McIntosh of New Philadelphia, V. Jeane (Richard) Heimberger-Candido, of Dublin, Ohio; son, Steven A. Heimberger of Quincy, IL; three grandchildren, Dustin Lee (Michelle) McIntosh of New Philadelphia, Anne Marie (Robert) Candido Westbrook of Cincinnati, and Robert Candido of Columbus; and two great granddaughters, Paige Nicole and Lauren Elizabeth McIntosh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret Ann Hurst-Foutz, and brothers, Lloyd and Howard Earl “Doc” Foutz.Friends may call at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home on Sunday, June 29, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. The New Philadelphia Elks Lodge will conduct lodge services at 5:45 Sunday afternoon. Funeral Services will be in the funeral home’s chapel on Monday, June 30, 2003, at 1:00 PM with Msgr. George J. Schlegel officiating. Burial will be at East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia.Following the service, friends are invited to share special memories with the family at a reception in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Rainbow Connection, P.O.
