Richard J. “Richie” Berichon, 80, of New Philadelphia, died in his home on Saturday, July 21, 2012.
A son of the late Leroy Berichon Sr. and the late Alberta (Lumsden) Berichon, Richie was born May 16, 1932 at Cleveland, Ohio.
Richie graduated from Euclid High School in 1950. He then spent four years in the United States Air Force. Three of those years, he was stationed in Korea and Japan during the Korean War with the USAF Security Service.
He graduated from Kent State University where he earned a degree in Engineering. Richie worked as an Engineer for General Electric for 40 years; 11 years at the Cleveland Wire Plant in Euclid and 29 years at the Dover Plant.
Richie enjoyed playing golf as well as having a beer or three with his many friends. He was an excellent baseball player in his younger years. He played the position of catcher mainly because he was “speed deprived”.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Calvin) Berichon whom he married on September 23, 1961; his children, Ed (Laura) Berichon, Bob (Colette) Berichon, Terri (Mike) Peters; nine grandchildren; a sister, Suzanne (Jim) Plescia; a brother, Hap Berichon; his step mother, Dolores Berichon; a special nephew, Jeff Berichon; many nieces and nephews and too many friends to count – all whom he loved and dearly enjoyed.
Richie was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers who died at birth; a beloved sister and her husband, Janet and Jimmy Meglich; a grandson, Samuel Berichon; a Goddaughter, Michelle Berichon; his sister-in-law, Joan Berichon and two beloved dogs, Taylor and Maggie.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A toast and candlelighting ceremony will conclude visitation at 8 p.m. Following visitation, friends are invited to join Richie’s family at his home for a time of fellowship and a beer or three. In keeping with Richie’s wishes, cremation will follow the visitation through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover.
Memorial contributions may be made in Richie’s memory to Operation Warm & Cozy Inc., 114 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
