Richard Hugo Anderson, 87, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, December 18, 2003, in Union Hospital at Dover. Born in Struthers, Ohio on July 12, 1916, he was one of three sons born to the late Hugo Axel Anderson and Olga Frisk Anderson. Mr. Anderson graduated high school and continued his studies at Pennsylvania State College where he received a degree in Ceramic Technology. Richard went to work in 1938 for the former Robinson Clay Products (now Clow) and over the next forty-four years was instrumental in its growth. He was responsible for the construction and operation of their plant in Pottstown Pennsylvania. Mr. Anderson was an avid reader, and a terrific supporter of both the Dover Public and Tuscarawas County Public Libraries. He also enjoyed golf, and traveling by car to destinations near and far. Together with his wife, they visited 49 of the fifty United States. On April 29, 1939, he married the former Virginia Eleanor Bossert who survives. They raised a family that includes a daughter, Elaine Marie Anderson (Ernest) Scott of Orlando, Florida; three sons, Richard Bossert (Susan) Anderson of Eugene Oregon, Thomas Roy Anderson of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Gary William (Carol) Anderson of Gastonia, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Rhett, Matthew, Jennifer, Tara, Anderson and Michael. Nine great-grandchildren complete the family. A brother, James Anderson also survives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Anderson. Local cremation has been arranged through the care and direction of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory. There are no calling hours. A service of remembrance will be lead by Pastor Michael E. Walters of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Monday morning, December 22, 2003 at 11: 00 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Members of the church will host a reception for family and friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Those unable to attend are invited to send condolences to the family, sign an online guest register, and view a memorial of Mr. Anderson’s life on the funeral home’s website. In honor of his lifelong support of libraries, the Anderson family requests memorial contributions be made to the Dover Public Library, 525 North Walnut Street, Dover OH 44622, or to the Tuscarawas County Public Library, 121 Fair Avenue NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
