Richard L. Hixson, 94, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, November 21, 2016, following a period of declining health.
Born in Chillicothe, O. on August 30, 1922, he was the son of the late Philip L. Hixson and Fay (English) Pontious.
Richard graduated from Chillicothe High School and then attended Rio Grande College. He honorably served his country in the United States Army, serving 3 years in the Pacific Theater during WWII.
Richard married his lifelong companion of nearly 68 years, the late Dolores E. Keairns Hixson, on July 30, 1945 in the Tabernacle Baptist Church at Chillicothe.
In 1966, the couple moved to New Philadelphia where he worked for the L & K Restaurant as the manager and most recently for Fleming Foods in sales until his retirement in 1987.
His faith was nurtured throughout his lifetime at a variety of churches including the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Chillicothe, Dover Bible Church, Grace Chapel in Dover, and First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia.
His family includes his children, Bill (Linda) Hixson of The Plains, O., Nancy (Jim) Lusher of Gallipolis, Bob (Vickie) Hixson and Tom Hixson, both of New Philadelphia; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and his half-sister, Judy Crews of Winter Haven, Florida.
Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Ave Dover on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m., with a service beginning at 7 pm. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Grandview Cemetery at Chillicothe.
