Richard A. Edwards, age 72, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully, Monday, December 15, 2014, in his residence following a brief illness.
A son of the late William Joseph and Arline Edna (Moser) Edwards, Dick was born in Union Hospital at Dover on August 31, 1942
He was a 1960 graduate of New Philadelphia High School where he played football and basketball. Following graduation, Dick entered the United States Army where he served as an Engineer.
Following his discharge from the service, Dick returned to New Philadelphia and remained a lifelong Quaker. He was proud to have not missed a home football game in over 40 years. In addition to his devotion to the Quakers, Dick was also an avid follower of The Ohio State Buckeyes.
Above all, Dick loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. For more than a decade, the family vacationed together touring the battlefields of Gettysburg and taking trips to Virginia Beach.
Professionally, Dick served the Gradall Company at New Philadelphia for 39 years where he worked in the paint shop and as a forklift driver, prior to his retirement in 2005.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of nearly 44 years, the former, Twila Fisher, whom he married on December 24, 1970; daughters, Tiffany (Craig) Meek and Sharon Wallick all of New Philadelphia; his siblings, Sharline (Jim) Bailey of Virginia Beach; Joe (Linda) Edwards of California, and Harold (Barbara) Edwards of North Carolina.
Completing the family are his beloved grandchildren, Ed Campbell, Jasmine Meuhlen, Morgan Colletti and Branden Wallick; three great-grandchildren, Mya Harrell, Tyson Youngman, and Ava Jones as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will greet guest on Monday, December 29, 2014 from 3:00 – 4:00 PM in the chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Pastor Scot Caley will lead a 4:00 PM memorial service.
