Richard Davis

Richard Davis, 74, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, April 13, 2008 in Union Hospital at Dover.Born October 17, 1933 in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Charles Earl and Bessie Viola (Bland) Davis.After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, and playing on the 1950 undefeated football team, he went on to honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1954 through 1956. He then began his professional career as a laborer, working at both Marlite and Perma Glas-Mesh, before retiring in 1996.Richard enjoyed many bus trips throughout the United States with his wife, the former Shirley Maurer, who survives. He also was a proud supporter of his grandchildren at their sporting events and enjoyed bowling.Richard and Shirley raised two sons, Michael R. Davis of New Philadelphia and Christopher D. (Lori) Davis of Tuscarawas. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Jessica and Jacob Davis and Alison Davis; two brothers, Charles E. (Ruth) Davis of Gnadenhutten and Robert (Barbara) Davis of New Philadelphia.There will be no public visitation. A private graveside service will be in New Philadelphia.
