Richard Dale McCort, age 87, of Carrollton, died Thursday, February 18, 2016 in Carroll Healthcare Center following a period of declining health.
Dale, as he was known to family and friends, was a son of the late Edward and Zelda Fisher McCort; and was born on August 20, 1928 in Orange Township in Carroll County.
Dale was a graduate of Perrysville High School and entered into the United States Army Air Corps in 1946. During his tenure, he served as a radio mechanic and obtained the rank of sergeant. He was stationed in Panama and Puerto Rico and was honorably discharged in June of 1949.
Upon his discharge, Dale Attended Kent State University and Wright State University’s National Radio and Television School. In 1953, Dale continued his public service when he entered into the Ohio Highway Patrol Academy. He retired as a Lieutenant in 1974 and became the Corporate Director of Security for the Sheller Globe Corporation at Toledo until 1989. That same year, Dale joined Carroll County as the Director of Regional Planning and served in that capacity until 1991.
He was a member of the Carrollton Church of Christ- Christian Disciples as well as the Carrollton Lodge 142 F&AM, 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite, Carrollton Blue Lodge, The Carrollton Veterans Club and American Legion, Carrollton Pelican Club, Ohio Highway Patrol Retirees Organization, Past Chairman of the American Society of Industrial Security, Past President of Associates for Crime Prevention, past member of the Carroll County Public Defenders Board, past member of the Carrollton Ruritan’s and Carrollton Rotary Club.
Dale is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, the former Doris Barrett, whom he married on September 2, 1950; a sister, Nellie (Frank) Nye of Carrollton; a brother, Curtis Glenn (Carolyn) McCort of Merritt Island, Florida; a sister-in-law, Sarah (Frank) Patterson of Texas; his close friend, Ralph Lucas of Carrollton and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
A memorial service celebrating Dale’s life will be led by Pastor Mike Doak in the Carrollton Church of Christ on Saturday, March 5, 2016 where Masonic Services will begin at 11 AM. The family will greet guests one hour prior to the service from 10-11 AM. All are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the church social hall immediately following. Burial in Perrysville Cemetery will take place at a later date.
