Richard David “Rick” Mills, 50, of Jewett, formerly of New Philadelphia, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 12, 2004, following a long battle with cancer. He had been a patient at Harrison Community Hospital in Cadiz.A son of James and Delores Fuller Mills, Richard was born May 26, 1954 at Aultman Hospital in Canton. He grew up in New Philadelphia, graduating in l972 from New Philadelphia High School. In l974, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he received special instruction in human relations at Lackland Air Force Base, TX, and specialized training in aircraft maintenance at Sheppard Air Force Base, TX He served at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida until his honorable discharge in l978.Rick was involved in the family refuse business, Buss Refuse, and later drove cement truck when he resided in South Carolina. In his free time, he enjoyed camping, tubing, and being at the beach.He is survived by his parents; his wife, Gina Warner, of SC; his former wife, Rhonda G. Mills, of New Philadelphia; daughters, Nicole (Dave) Markley of West Lafayette and Janelle of SC; sons Corey (Nikki) Mills and Jeremy Mills, both of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Peyton and Noah Markley, of West Lafayette; sisters, Dotty (Bernie) Obert of Pataskala, OH, and Marcia (Tony) Davis of TX; nephews, Ryan and Steven Wilhelm of TX, and Joshua Obert of Pataskala, OH; his grandmother, Dorothy Applegarth of Jewett; and several aunts and uncles.Rick was preceded in death by his grandfather and grandmother, Walter and Dora Mae Mills; grandfather, Robert Fuller; step-grandfather, David Applegarth; and aunt, Dora Jean Mills.Friends may call on the family at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday evening, June 15, 2004, between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm to share special memories of Rick’s life. A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Hugh B. Berry, will begin at 7:00 pm. Military services will be conducted by the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445 following the service. Cremation will be under the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia.The family requests that memorial contributions in Rick’s honor be made to Harrison Community Hospital, 951 East Market Street, Cadiz, OH, 43907.
