Richard Casper

February 8, 1926 — September 17, 2018

Graveside services for Richard G. Casper, 92, and his wife, Lianne, 83, both of Gnadenhutten, were recently held in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Richard died Monday, September 17, 2018 in New Dawn Health Care Center at Dover and Lianne had preceded him in death on September 21, 2015.

Born in Baltic, Richard was the son of the late Garrett W. and Edna A. Stillman Casper and had operated a tree farm for a number of years and had been recognized as Top Tree Farmer of the Year of the Midwest in 1981. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Richard served during WWII as a Scout Sniper and was a life member of the 6th Marine Division Association, a life member of the China Marine Association and a life member of the NRA.

Virginia “Lianne” Casper, was born in Tuscarawas, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Philip E. and Mary Sparks Young. She was a 1950 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and was involved with the YMCA and American Red Cross as a swim instructor for most of her life. Lianne also had attended a number of area churches, sang in their choirs and was involved with their youth groups. She also sang for many area events and weddings.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Kathy Casper of New Philadelphia; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In keeping with their wishes, both Richard and Lianne were cremated through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory and were buried together.
