Richard Byron Moore, 81, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, August 6, 2007 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.A son of the late Byron and Ella (Johnson) Moore, Richard was born September 22, 1925 at New Philadelphia, Ohio.Richard was a 1943 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Following graduation, he went to work for Joy Manufacturing. After his first two years at Joy, he took a leave of absence to join the United States Air Force. He served his country during World War II as a turret gunner while stationed in the Philippines. After completing his service, he returned to work at Joy and retired at the age of 62, totaling 44 years of service.He enjoyed building model airplanes, painting and puzzles. He also had a passion for photography which has provided his family a lifetime of memories through all of the photo albums from over the years. But most of all, Richard loved his family and especially his grandchildren who regarded him as “The Best Grandpa in the Whole Wide World”.He is survived by a daughter, Ellen (Tom) Kelker and a son, Stephan (Ethel) Moore both of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Sam (Leigh) Moore of Summerville, South Carolina, Kim (Mike) Paris of Columbus, Ohio, Stephanie (Ron) Imer of New Philadelphia, Leah (Trevor) Dunne of Ireland, Jason (Alicia) Martinelli of Olympia, Washington, Rachel (Ed) Schurdell of Olmstead Falls, Ohio, Megan (Jason) Glover of Chicago, Illinois and Kara Martinelli of Brooklyn, New York; eight great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren and two sisters, Dorothy (Harold) Maurer of New Philadelphia and Joanne (Wil) Shroyer of Dover.Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of nearly forty-nine years, Anna Mae Moore, who passed away on May 22, 1995.There will be no public visitation and private family services will be held.
