Richard Briggs, 79, of 608 Orchard Avenue N.W. of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, August 27, 2006 in Hennis Care Center at Dover after a brief illness.Born October 13, 1926 in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Ephrian and Madge English Briggs. After Ephrian’s death, Madge remarried the late Lyle Wallace, who Dick was very close with throughout his life. He grew up on the family farm in Pleasant Valley.A 1944 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Dick continued his education for two years at Ohio University. On January 12, 1952, Dick was united in marriage to Doris Hurst Briggs, who survives.Dick served in the United States Navy as a turret gunner on sea planes from 1944 through 1946. He then worked at Warner and Swasey and retired from W. E. Quicksall & Associates as an office manager where he worked from 1972 through 1996.In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by two sons, John David Briggs of New Philadelphia and Eric Richard Briggs of Dover; and one grandson, Dustin Briggs of Strasburg. His family will long remember Dick as a great father and husband.Dick was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald of California.In keeping with Dick’s wishes, a private family burial will take place at East Avenue Cemetery. No visitation or services are scheduled.The family requests memorials in Dick’s memory be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
