Richard A. Baer Sr., 93, of Dennison, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 16, 2023 in Oak Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Baltic.
Born in Cleveland, he was the son of the late Cloyde E. and Reba Marie ( Ashworth) Baer. He was an honorably discharged veteran who served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving with the infantry as a machine gunner and was the recipient of two Bronze Stars and a Unit Citation.
Following the service, Richard returned to the area and began a long career as a machine operator with Hercules Engines in Canton and retired after 23 years of employment. Richard was a longtime member of Roxford Methodist Church in Dennison and the American Legion Post #139 in New Philadelphia. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and working on cars. Especially doing body work and paint. Family, however, was the most important thing to him and he loved each and every moment that he could spend with them.
On July 26, 1952, Richard married the love of his life, Maxine J. Zorzi. Together they celebrated over 71 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by four children: Linda (Douglas) Karr of Dennison, Carla Henry of Midvale, Cathy (Ronald) Wilson of Dennison, and Richard A. Baer, Jr. of Midvale; six grandchildren, Christopher (Michelle) Karr, Alicia (William) Pusser, Joshua (Correy) Henry, Brandi (Will) Henry, Kadi (Alex) Incarnato, and Kelssi (Ryan) Wilson; a sister, Janice Hall of Columbus and 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his siblings, Carl Baer, Robert Baer, Danny Baer, Beverly Baer and his great grandson Jonah Pusser.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 20, 2023 from 12:30-1:30 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia. A funeral service will begin at 1:30 PM with Brother Jim Manbeck officiating and military honors will be provided by the New Philadelphia Veterans of Foreign Wars, Carl C. Stoller Post #1445. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens.
