Richard A Williams, age 67, of New Philadelphia died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on October 4, 1948 at Fort Benning, Georgia to the late John and Mildred (Walker) Williams.
Richard was a 1967 graduate from Roosevelt High School in Seattle, Washington. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country until his retirement in 1987 after 20 years of service. He then worked as a letter carrier for 20 years for the New Philadelphia Postal Service. Richard remained active in the National Association of Letter Carriers until his death.
He was an avid sports fan and was especially fond of the Boston Red Sox, Seattle Seahawks, New Philadelphia Quakers and NASCAR.
His is survived by his wife, Mary K. (Howard) Williams of 35 years; his children, Dr. Nicole Williams of Columbus and Joshua Williams of New Philadelphia; his sister, Marilyn (John) Kerrigan of Galveston, Texas; sister-in-law Barbara (Steve) Collins of Gainesville, Florida and 2 nieces, 2 nephews, 4 great nieces and 4 great nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his brother, David Williams.
In keeping with Richard’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Inurnment will then take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 2 p.m. in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at Rittman, Ohio.
