Remus “Butch” Belknap

January 19, 1949 — November 11, 2017

Remus D. “Butch” Belknap, 68, of West Lafayette, passed away in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia on November 11, 2017.

Born in Dover on January 19, 1949, he was the son of the late Remus D. and Lillian (Simmons) Belknap, Sr.

After graduating from high school, Butch honorably served our country in the United States Army. He worked at a variety of companies including Longaberger, GE, and Muskingum Coach, ultimately retiring as a bus driver with Head Start.

In addition to being an avid sports memorabilia collector, Butch was a devoted fan of the Cleveland sports teams. He was also proud of his service as an auxiliary police officer with the New Philadelphia Police Department.

Butch is survived by his wife, the former Shawn R. Rothacher, whom he wed in 1999; his sons, Troy, Scott and Ryan Belknap, all of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Rozalyn, Avalyn and Ethan Belknap; his dog, Holly; his step-children, Tonya Beehler of New Philadelphia and Jeffrey (Dawn) Beehler of West Lafayette; grandchildren, Kairi Clark and Jamie Clark, Jr.; in addition to numerous extended family.

In addition to his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Dorothea Clark.

A celebration of Butch’s life will take place in April’s Country Kitchen, 640 Heller Dr., Newcomerstown, Ohio on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 5 PM.
