Rebecca Leona “Becky” Furbay, age 98, of New Philadelphia, passed away Wednesday evening, December 28, 2011 in New Dawn Retirement Community following a period of declining health.Born in Rush Township, O., on May 7, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Keyes and Anna Margaret (Rieker) Edwards.After completing her education at Uhrichsville High School, Becky married her beloved husband, the late Milton Furbay who preceded her in death in 1995. Professionally, Becky was both a clerk and seamstress. She was employed at a variety of companies including Bower Battery, Belmont Stamping, Leggetts Restaurant, Jaffes, Montgomery Wards, and Daniels in downtown New Philadelphia.She will long be remembered for her outstanding pie baking, cooking, and seamstress skills; in addition to making anyone she came in contact with comfortable and well-cared for. Her love for relationships with both family and friends was of utmost importance to her. She greatly enjoyed her membership in the Red Hat Society also.Her faith was nurtured at the Rush Community Church of the Nazarene, Indian Meadows Church of God, and First Church of God in New Philadelphia where she was a member for numerous years. She also attended the First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia. Becky will be deeply missed by her son, Elden D. Furbay of New Philadelphia; her grandsons, Charles (friend, Connie) and Jeffrey Furbay, both of New Philadelphia; her great-grandsons, Brandon and Zachary Furbay; her sisters, Helen (Bob) Clarke of Rush Twp., and Lois Jarvis of Strasburg; her brother, Harold (Ann) Edwards of Tappan Lake; sister-in-law, Irene Edwards of Mineral City; numerous nephews and nieces; and her beloved family-like friends, Bob and Fairy Burrier of Alliance.In addition to her parents and husband, Becky was preceded in death by her brothers, Ernest D. (Betty) and Dallas V. Edwards; her sisters, Vada (Fred) Ravine and Maxine (Robert) Sampson; and two infant sisters, Velna Mae and Verna Edwards.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. A service celebrating Becky’s life will be held in the funeral home’s chapel on Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. with The Rev. Bill Waltz and Pastor Matt Roe officiating.Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
