Raymond S. Vesco, 83, of Tuscarawas, died Sunday, March 9, 2014 in Beacon Pointe at Uhrichsville following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Faustino and Mary (Bagaglio) Vesco, Raymond was born July 7, 1930 at Wainwright, Ohio.
Raymond graduated from Tuscarawas Warwick High School in 1948. He then continued his education at Kent State University where he earned multiple degrees.
On June 22, 1951, Raymond entered the United States Army and served in the 21st Infantry Regiment during the Korean War. During his service he spent 16 months in Japan before receiving an honorable discharge on May 28, 1953.
He was a 28-year employee of Gradall, formerly Warner & Swasey, and retired in 1995 as a supervisor. Following his retirement, Raymond then worked at the Nolan Company for nearly four years.
Raymond was Catholic by faith and was a lifetime member of the Tuscarawas V.F.W. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia Elks, the Dover Moose, the New Philadelphia Eagles and the Warwick Senior Citizens. He was a hardworking man who considered work as a hobby. When not working, Raymond enjoyed tending to his gardens.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Peggy Lou (Thompson) Vesco, whom he married on September 1, 1951; his children, Cindy L. (Jim) Sutton-Schaub of Massillon and Ray A. (Cathy) Vesco of Stillwater; his grandchildren, Rachel (Jason) Peterson of Shaker Heights, Laura Vesco of Charlotte, North Carolina, Jordon Vesco, Jordon (Ashley) Vosick and Megan Vosick all of Stillwater and Molly (Shane) Stine of Weaver’s Run; three great-grandchildren, Sienna and Alden Peterson and Ella Gibson; a sister, Mary Louise (Ed) Richesson of Bolivar; and a brother, Emmett (Kathy) Vesco of Akron.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 5 to 8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and again one hour prior to the service on Friday. A funeral service celebrating Raymond’s life will be held in Friday, March 14, 2014 at 2:30 PM in the funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Legg officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. James’ Lutheran Cemetery at Tuscarawas. Following the committal service, a meal will be held in the Geib Family Center at New Philadelphia.
