Raymond J. “Rick” Ricklic, 80, long-time New Philadelphia resident and craftsman, died Friday, September 3, 2004, at his home following a brief illness.Born in New Philadelphia on June 11, 1924, Raymond was a son of the late Joseph and Martha E. DeWaele Ricklic, and a l941 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.He served in the South Pacific as a member of the United States Marine Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. Known to everyone in the community for his ready smile and congenial nature, he owned and operated Rick’s Shoe Repair in New Philadelphia for over 40 years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Philadelphia.He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia J. “Pat” Kelly, with whom he celebrated 52 years of marriage on November 22, 2003; three daughters, Kathleen P. (Scot) Steele, Jane E. (Dr. Curt) Moore, and Jill M. (Dan) Studer, all of Dover; two sons, Dennis R. (Jean Ann) Ricklic and Kelly M. (Sharon) Ricklic both of New Philadelphia; ten grandchildren, Christopher (Lori) Ricklic, Gretchen (Frank) Polen, Amanda (Nathan) Perks, Ryan Ricklic, Michael Studer, Tyler Ricklic, Stephen Studer, Elizabeth Studer, Meredith Moore, and Gian Steele; four great grandsons, Bret Ricklic, Zander Ricklic, Layne Perks, and Mason Ricklic; two sisters, Irma (William) Rieger of New Philadelphia, and Laura (John) Dutton of Mineral City; and one brother, Donald “Joey” (Mildred “Pete”) Ricklic of New Philadelphia.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Albert.Visitation will be at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday evening, September 6, 2004, from 5-8 pm with a Christian Wake Service beginning at 7:45 pm.Prayers will be said at the funeral home at 10:10 am on Tuesday, September 7, and will be followed by a procession to Sacred Heart Church where a funeral mass will be celebrated by Msgr. George J. Schlegel at 10:30 am. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia where military services will be conducted by the New Philadelphia VFW.A reception for family and friends at the Geib Family Center will follow services.
