Raymond M. Besozzi, age 95, of Country Club Retirement Center at Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia died peacefully early Thursday morning, August 9, 2007.Born at Wainwright, Ohio, September 29, 1911, he was a son of the late Angelo Besozzi and Regina Bassetti Besozzi.Raymond attended school at Wainwright and Sacred Heart in New Philadelphia. For many years he worked for Dover Chemical Corporation at Dover and at the time of his retirement, was shipping supervisor.A naturally talented musician, Raymond was affiliated for many years with the former Eddy Boyd orchestra before performing himself as a one man band, playing the accordion. Raymond enjoyed singing with a rich baritone voice and was always ready to dance the night away in local clubs or spend an evening among friends appreciating good music.Raymond’s affiliations were many and included Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia, a member of the B.E.O. Elks #510 at New Philadelphia, the Moose Lodge also of New Philadelphia, the Eagles Lodge at Uhrichsville, and a social member of the Dover V.F.W.Survivors include his loving companion of 28 years, Myrtle Faniola with whom he resided in New Philadelphia until moving to Country Club Center three years ago.Raymond’s family also includes his son, Dr. Myrwood Besozzi of Knoxville, Tennessee; two sisters, Loretta Nadeau of Dover and Janice Myers of Canton; a granddaughter, Jennifer (John) Barnes of Atlanta, Georgia; a grandson, Michael Besozzi of Knoxville; and one great-granddaughter, Drennan Adelle Barnes.His extended family includes the sons and daughters of his companion, Myrtle, who are Shirley (Bill) Jones of Homeassa, Florida; Carol Pachis of Massillon, Ohio, Beverly (David) Nilsen of Lancaster, Ohio, John Smith of New Philadelphia, Ray (Bev) Smith of Dover, Carl Smith of Uhrichsville, Elva (Jim) Scott of San Ramon, California, and Ed Conklin of New Philadelphia. Many grandchildren of which Ray and Myrtle have been positive influence upon and who will miss their “Grandpa Ray”.Ray is preceded in death by his wife the late Katherine (Sutton) Besozzi who passed away in 1970? As well as two sisters, Mrs. Rita Stellarini, Mrs. Ema Demattio; and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Susan BesozziFriends are invited to call Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Christian Wake services will commence at 4:00 p.m. The Msgr. George J. Schlegel will celebrate Mass of Christian Burial Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. Burial alongside his late wife, Katherine, will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
