Raymond L. Ball, 89, a lifelong resident of New Philadelphia, died Friday morning, October 25, 2002, at Union Hospital in Dover.Born September 7, 1913, in New Philadelphia, Ohio, he was a son of the late Albert Victor and Margaret Young Ball. Raymond was educated at New Philadelphia and was a World War II veteran of the Navy Construction Battalion. After 28 years of employment with the former Warner and Swasey, Raymond retired in 1978. He was a member of the New Philadelphia First Christian Church, the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge #177, F & AM for more than 50 years, the Ancient and Accepted Order of the Scottish Rite of the Valley of Canton and the former New Philadelphia Moose Lodge. Raymond also enjoyed bowling, watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in baseball and softball and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.Surviving is a daughter, Judy (Tom) Shetler of New Philadelphia; two grandsons, Bret (Sue) Shetler of New Philadelphia and Tom (Ronda) Shetler Jr. of Uhrichsville; a brother, Albert James Ball of Sherrodsville; and five great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brianne and Brooke Shetler and Tanner and Reid Shetler.In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Leora May McKay, who died on Jan. 30, 1990, and one brother, William.Calling hours will be held Sunday, October 27, 2002, from 2-5 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia. A service will begin helf by the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge at 4:45 PM. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday, October 28 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. A Burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery in New Philadelphia, where the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445 will conduct military rites. Following the committal, friends and family are invited to the Geib Family Center for a meal.
