Raymond Dale Korns

May 5, 1947 — March 23, 2014

Raymond Dale Korns, 66, of New Philadelphia entered into the joy of the Lord, Sunday morning, March 23, 2014 at the Hospice House, following a valiant battle with lung cancer.

Born in Dover, May 5, 1947, he was the son of the late Raymond Korns and Rose Korns Latham.

Dale graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1966. He was drafted into the U.S. Army the same year, and served in the Vietnam Conflict from 1967 to 1968. Dale was a life member of the New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445.

Dale was employed by Marsh Industries from 1969 to 2003, and Marlite from 2003 until he retired in April of 2013.

Dale was a life-long fan of the New Philadelphia Quakers, The Ohio State Football, the Cleveland Indians, the Cleveland Browns, and NASCAR. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing during his younger years.

Dale married the love of his life, the former Chrystel Wertman on July 1, 1972. Survivors include his loving wife, Chrystel; his two sons, Raymond Dale Korns II and Jestin R. (Erica) Korns; and his four grandsons, Bryant, Jackson, Carter, and Colton Korns. Dale is also survived by his mother-in-law, Beverly Wertman; five brothers, Thomas E. (Cheryl) Korns, Henry D. Korns, Michael D. (Sharon) Korns, Edward L. Korns, and Terry L. Korns; two sisters, Carol L. (Tony) Cordova and Sally A. Korns; a sister-in-law, Carol (Randy) Eiler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother and father, Dale was preceded in death by his step-father, John Latham; his father-in-law, Clifford L. Wertman; and his brother, William G. Korns.

He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends. Thank you to all who prayed for and helped Dale and Chrystel in any way during Dale’s illness.

Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating Dale’s life will be held in the funeral home on Thursday beginning at 10:30 a.m. The New Philadelphia V.F.W. Post #1445 will render military honors at the funeral home following the service.

Immediately following military honors, a meal will be shared in Geib’s Hospitality Center where his family and friends will continue in fellowship.

Inurnment will be held in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover at a later date.
