Ralph Sherer

Ralph Sherer, 86, of New Philadelphia passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Saturday, August 5, 2017 in Park Village Southside at New Philadelphia .

A son of Ralph and Eva (Gowins) Sherer, Sr., Ralph was born in New Philadelphia on October 8, 1930.

Ralph graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1948. Before the end of their senior year, he and 9 other classmates enlisted in the United States Navy and on May 31, 1948, three days after graduation, they were then inducted into service. He served four years aboard the aircraft carrier USS Cabot CVL 28. Upon his discharge he went to work for Union Camp Corporation until his retirement in August 1985 after 33 years of service.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Kuznarsky) Sherer, whom he married October 29, 1949; his three children, Julianne Duncan, Mark (Joanne) Sherer and Kevin Sherer; two grandchildren, Melanie (Michael)Carlson and Marcus Sherer as well as a great-granddaughter, Ella Carlson.

Ralph is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Norma Jean Rentz.

In keeping with the family wishes there will be no public calling hours and cremation care will take place through the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory. A graveside service will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date.
