Proctor Wilbur “Bud” Weir, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 20, 2010, after spending two months at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and six weeks at Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor, Michigan.Born July 15, 1930 in Sioux City, IA, he was the son of the late Proctor and Ellen (Wilbur) Weir. In 1935, Proctor’s family moved to Los Angeles. There, he graduated from Venice High School. During his high school career, he earned his Eagle Scout Award in 1947. Proctor honorably served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952, during the Korean War. As he always said, “I served 3 years, 11 months and 13 days.” He then continued his formal education at West Coast College of Engineering graduating in 1957.Proctor began his professional career with North American Rockwell in Los Angeles until 1969, when he moved to Ann Arbor, MI. There, he worked at Bendix Aerospace Systems Division from 1969 to 1972 on the Apollo (ALSEP) program. In 1972, he joined the Chrysler Corp. working in the Truck Department. Then he managed the wind tunnel at the Chelsea Proving Grounds, ultimately retiring in 1988. Proctor was a member of the Ann Arbor Elks, Travis Pointe Country Club and the Pittsfield Seniors. He enjoyed reading, sports and world news. Proctor is survived by his wife, Joan, whom he married May 4, 1974; two sons, Jon and Tim; one daughter, Denise; and his brother, Pierce. He has four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Erin, Eric and Shelly; one great-granddaughter, Lorilei; two special daughters-in-law, Megan and Laura; his uncle, Joseph Gervasi; three nephews, Bobby, Randy and Donn; and one niece, Maryann, all living in California. In Ann Arbor, he has a very special aunt, Irene Francis and a cousin, Mary K. Francis. There are many loving cousins in Ohio and California. Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Sunday, May 23, 2010 from 1 to 4 p.m. Msgr. George J. Schlegel will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church on Monday beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will immediately follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Friends and family are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, following the committal service where a meal will be shared.The Weir family requests memorial contributions may be directed to Sacred Heart Church, 139 3rd St NE, New Philadelphia, O. 44663.
