Preston C. Carroll, 79, New Philadelphia, died early Saturday morning, April 16, 2005, at Morning View Care Center in New Philadelphia.Preston was born May 24, 1925 in Midvale, Ohio, the older son of the late Ralph Preston and Anna M. (Halter) Carroll.He enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and served aboard the USS Randall. A recipient of the Victory Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, Preston was honorably discharged in 1946, and returned to his hometown.He was employed as a box car loader at Evans Brick in Midvale for 44 years, prior to his retirement.Preston was a life member of the Midvale VFW and the New Philadelphia VFW, Post 1445.He is survived by his brother, Max Carroll, of New Philadelphia; niece, Marcy (Steve) Bailey of New Philadelphia, nephews, Mark (Stephanie) Carroll of Gnadenhutten and Mike (Kim) Carroll of Lexington, KY; and several grand nieces and grand nephews.Visitation will be Monday evening, April 18, 2005 between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. Services to celebrate Preston’s life will be conducted by his nephew, the Rev. Dr. Steve Bailey, on Tuesday afternoon, April 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the Geib Funeral Home Chapel.Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in New Philadelphia.where military services will be conducted by the Midvale VFW.Memorial contributions may be made to the New Philadelphia VFW Honor Guard or the Midvale VFW Honor Guard c/o Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Homes & Crematories, 116 Second Street NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
