Polly L. Akers Vitt, age 99, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, April 08, 2011, in Union Hospital at Dover.She was born November 2, 1911, a daughter of the late Tom and Belle Patton Akers, at Riverside, Tennessee and attended Dover High School.She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church and the church’s Altar Society.Polly loved life and was still very active and independent until the time of her death. She enjoyed going to auctions tending to her beautiful flowers and her large collection of dolls and teapots. She was an avid quilter, having won first place in the 2009 Tuscarawas County Fair for one of her many quilts.Polly married Frank Vitt, Sr. on January 12, 1929, and shared 77 years of marriage prior to his death on March 7, 2006.Surviving are two sons Frank (Vicki) Vitt, Jr. and David L. (Brenda) Vitt; and one sister, Sue Schlemmer all of New Philadelphia. Completing the family are nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Don and Fran Wemple.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law Betty and Bill Kennedy, a great-grandson, Ryan Allan Vitt and four brothers and four sisters.The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 10, 2011, from 2:00 â?? 4:00 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Father Jeff Coning will officiate Mrs. Vitt’s funeral service on Monday, April 11, 2011, at 1:00 PM in the funeral home’s chapel with burial alongside her husband to follow in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following services, the family wishes to invite guests to join then in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home, where a meal and fellowship will be shared.Those unable to attend may send the family personal condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.The family requests that memorial contributions in Polly’s name be directed to Sacred Heart Church, 139 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W Third Street, Dover, Ohio 44622.
