Polly Ann Byers

Polly Ann Byers, 89, of Dover, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 19, 2025 at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover.

Born on July 17, 1935, in Carrollton, Polly was the daughter of the late Chester W. and Frances Lucille (Truex) Newell. From the time she was young, she took great pride in ironing her family’s clothes. Later on, she pressed clothes at Puritan Laundry in New Philadelphia until it burned down. She then began working at Catola’s in both the Dover and New Philadelphia locations. She loved working in dry cleaning and was sad when she had to retire, but after retiring she became a full time grandma.

Polly loved her grandkids more than anything. She always lit up when they were around. She held them while they napped, walked them to the store for a toy and a special snack, and snuck them sips of Pepsi. A child at heart herself, Polly loved to tease and laugh. She loved when she had her family together, and often times would just sit and listen to everyone talk with a smile on her face.

She is survived by her four sons, Jeff Byers and partner Paula Hammond of Tuscarawas, Robert (Kris) Byers, Jr. of Dover, Chet Byers of New Philadelphia, and Lester (Erin) Byers, III of New Philadelphia; a sister, Alice Barnes of Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Dorthea Stein, Dustin Hall, Ethan Byers and fiancé Emma Calhoun, Bailey, Alex, Ruby and Ellie Byers; three great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents, Polly was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Byers, three brothers: John, Glen, and Bob Newell; and two sisters: Donna Bosler and Jesse McNutt.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 12:30 to 2 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia where a funeral service will begin at 2 PM with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. In keeping with her wishes, cremation care will follow the service and burial will take place, at a later date, in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
