Phyllis Jean Williams, age 85, of Hennis Care Center at Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday evening, December 8, 2021.
Born in Dover, Ohio on April 23, 1936, Phyllis was a daughter of the late Lloyd A. and Mary E. Jaberg Murphy.
She was a 1954 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and worked for many years at the former Reeves Bank prior to joining Bag and Save at Dover where she worked as a cashier and stayed on after the company became Giant Eagle. Phyllis ultimately retired after 16 years with the grocery store.
In her free time, she enjoyed working Sudoku and Crossword Puzzles and loved caring for her cat, Hector.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Brenda L. Rees and Steve (Julie) Williams all of Dover; her grandchildren, Brittany Rees, Brian (Rikki Metcalf) Williams, and Eric (Holly) Williams also all of Dover; her great-grandchildren, Keylee and Mikaelynn “K.K.” Baughman and Charlee Metcalf; a sister, Irma Gustin of Florida; a brother, Jack (Mary) Murphy of Deerfield, Ohio, and a sister-in-law, Norma Murphy of New Philadelphia as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by a brother, Don Murphy; a sister and brother-in-law, Doris (John) Lanzer, and a brother-in-law, Tom Gustin.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no public visitation or services. A private burial will take place in the Holmes Church Cemetery. Cremation care has been conducted through the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.
