Phyllis “Jean” Kimble, age 72, of Dover, died peacefully, Saturday, August 30, 2014 following a courageous battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer.
Born February 2, 1942, at New Philadelphia, Jean was a daughter of the late Robert Mercer, Sr. and Beatrice (Miller) Mercer. Jean was a 1960 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and, until recently, was employed with Hardees in Strasburg for 13 years.
On April 2, 1961 at Bridgeport, Ohio, Jean wed her best friend, confidant, and the love of her life, Ronald Ray Kimble. The two shared 53 happy years of marriage, and in 1993, they began spending some of their time square dancing with numerous Square Dance Clubs, including the Nuhall Square Dance, Star Prominaders, Red Lantern Flames, and Shirts and Skirts.
Jean was also a member of the Civil War Round Table of Dover and the Custer Memorial Association at New Rumley. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her husband, Ron; her sons, Lonnie R. Kimble of New Philadelphia and Troy (Trela) Kimble of Bolivar; a daughter, Tana (Jeff) McClenaghan of Dover; seven grandchildren, Corey R. Kimble, Jessica L. Thompson, Brandon Kimble, Trenton Kimble, Kayla McClenaghan, Jennifer McClenaghan, and Christopher McClenaghan; two brothers, Richard Mercer and Gary (Sara) Mercer all of Dover; a sister, Bella Harding of Tuscarawas; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her mother and father, Jean was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Mercer, Jr. and a sister, Sandy Scott.
The family will greet guests on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Mr. Lomas Shuman will lead a celebration of Jean’s life on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 1:30 PM in the Dover Geib Center. Burial will follow in the Dover Burial Park. Following the service, all are invited to return with the family to join in a time of food and fellowship in the Hospitality Room of the Dover Geib Center.
