Phyllis Frances (Battalio) Garner, age 93, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015, in Hennis Care Center at Dover following a period of declining health.
Born at Lisbon, Ohio on April 15, 1921, Phyllis was a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Vichone) Battalio.
On March 21, 1957, Phyllis married Donald Lee Garner, Sr. and together the couple raised one son and shared in 57 years of marriage.
She is a longtime member of Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia and was employed by New Philadelphia City Schools where she worked in the cafeteria. Phyllis enjoyed cooking for her family, working in her flower beds around her home and keeping her house clean.
Phyllis is survived by her husband; her son, Donald (Judy) Garner, Jr.; a grandson, Joe Garner all of New Philadelphia ; three sisters, Angie (Frank) Festi of Dover, Mary Marinelli of New Philadelphia, and Jo Betcha of Boca Raton, Florida; a brother, Albert Battalio of New Philadelphia and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Smith, Rose Chini and Lena Callahan; and four brothers, Fred, John, Tom and Anthony “Tony” Battalio.
Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 10 AM in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia where a procession will form in front of the church beginning at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
