Phyllis Elaine ”sissy” Richards

Phyllis Elaine Richards, age 71, of Dover took her journey to be with the Lord on Monday, July 26, 2010 in Union Hospital at Dover.A daughter of the late Clarence and Gladys (Clinton) Gibson, Sissy as she was known to her friends and family was born on December 4, 1938, at Zanesville Ohio. Sissy attended Zanesville High School and soon married Nathaniel Richards, Jr. on June 29, 1963, at Zanesville. Sissy knew no strangers, and had an unconditional love for everyone, especially her family and friends. She was truly one of a kind. Praises for wonderful treats were always on the lips of those who had ever been afforded the opportunity to encounter Sissy’s excellent cooking skills; a trait she will long be remembered for by family and friends alike. To all of Sissy’s Bingo and Wheeling Island associates, “Keep dabbin’ those cards and pulling those slots and always enjoy life and keep doing what makes you happy”.She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory; her husband, Nathaniel Richards, Jr.; children, Nathaniel Dean (Jené) Richards of Great Falls Virginia, Terrence Craig Richards, and Rachele Nicole Richards both of Dover; as well as Harry (Darlene) Ogletree, whom she thought of as a son; and three siblings, Betty Jean Wallace, Gregory Gibson and Steve Gibson.Six grandchildren, Sierra, Casey, Brianna, Sydney, Dorian and Hendria Richards; three great-grandchildren, Nautica, Arianna and Marquis; a special cousin, Gretta Norman; special friends, Sandra Edwards, Lena Morton, Rose and Jim Wenger, Patsy Jirles, Betty Romo, Betty Cox and Darlene as well as a numerous nieces and nephews and loved ones complete the family.In addition to her parents, Sissy was preceded in death by her precious son, Jón Carlos Richards; siblings, Patti Belle, Lillian, Edith, Evelyn, Peggy, Bonnie, Clarence Jr., Ronald and Larry; a special friend, “Chee Chee” King and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Friday, July 30, 2010, from 4 to 7 PM and again one hour prior to services, on Saturday, July 31, 2010, from 10 to 11 AM. The Reverend Chris Lowery will lead a celebration of life service for Sissy in the Dover Funeral Center on Saturday at 11 AM. In keeping with Sissy’s wishes, cremation will follow.Following the service the family will gather in the Hospitality Room of the Geib Funeral Center where a meal and fellowship will be shared.Those unable to attend may send the family personal condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.The family requests that memorial contributions in Sissy’s name be directed to The American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield, Ohio 44406.
