Phyllis A. Meese

Phyllis A. Meese, age 80, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Thursday, June 23, 2011 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health. Born at New Philadelphia August 1, 1930, she was a son of the late Harold J. and Ferne R. (Fellers) Fagley.Phyllis graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1948, where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, the late A. Eugene Meese. They would have celebrated 60 years of marriage in December. Phyllis was a life long member of The First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia. Together with her husband, she loved gardening and canning their bounty, and then sharing her specialty hot peppers with family and friends. She was the office manager and bookkeeper at the family-owned “Meese Woodcrafts” for 30 years.She is survived by her two sons; David (Vickie) Meese and Gregory (Jill) Meese, both of New Philadelphia, her daughter; Sue (Clay) Huenemann of Lafayette, Indiana, her brother; John (Billie) Fagley of New Philadelphia, her sister; Betty (Wilson) McAnnich of Cadiz, her brothers-in-law; Robert Meese of New Philadelphia and Richard “Dick” Meese of Fair Point Harbor. Her grandchildren; Thad (Beth) Meese of Hudson, Kelly (Danny) Hettinger of New Philadelphia, Jill Huenemann of Lafayette, Indiana, and Jay Huenemann, also of Lafayette, Indiana, her great-granddaughters; Julia and Hannah Meese of Hudson, and her step-grandchildren; Colton and Alexis Sweasey of New Philadelphia complete her family. A funeral service celebrating Phyllis’ life will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Monday, June 27, 2011 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia. No calling hours are scheduled.
