Philip Wood Adams, 58, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of New Philadelphia, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2006 in San Antonio, Texas where he was at home, and left suddenly and peacefully. The son of Merle and Lounell Goodwin Adams, Philip was born on June 4, 1948 in Bethesda, Maryland. He was a husband, a father, a son, a grandfather, a veteran, an engineer, a student, a historian and a storyteller. He served his country honorably from 1967-1970. He then went to Arizona State University, and later began his career as an industrial engineer. He married Virginia Marie McDaniels, in New Philadelphia on July 4, 1980. They had two beautiful daughters, Cassandra Anne and Elizabeth Rose. Later, his grandson, Austin Lee Adams-Gasser, graced the family and the grandfather. In addition to his family, Philip was passionate about military history and strategy. His knowledge was encyclopedic and he was always happy to share this hobby with his friends and family. Philip also took pride in his southwest lifestyle. He was most comfortable wearing a cowboy hat, boots and his lonestar belt buckle. He always had his pocketknife nearby, just in case. He left too soon, and will be sorely missed by his loving family and friends.Philip is survived by his wife, Virginia of Dover, daughters, Cassandra of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Elizabeth of Phoenix, Arizona, grandson Austin of Phoenix, Arizona, mother Lounell Adams of San Antonio, Texas, brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Susy Adams, and their girls Caroline and Annie of Bexley, Ohio.Philip was preceded in death by his father, Merle Wood Adams.Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2006, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Geib Funeral Center in Dover. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2006 at 8:30 am in the Geib Funeral Center in Dover, with Rev. Hugh Berry officiating. Burial will take place in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio at 11:00 am on Saturday.A memorial account has been established in Philip W. Adams name at Chase Bank, 3000 N. Wooster Avenue, Dover, Ohio 44662 to assist his family.
