Philip G. Landreth, age 77 of New Philadelphia, died Monday, January 14, 2008 in Union Hospital at Dover.Phil was born to the late Howard and Leva Ochsenrider Landreth on September 6, 1930 at Ft. Wayne, Indiana.In 1960, Phil married the former Barbara Donkin and together, the couple reared two children. Phil was a man who loved surrounding himself with people, and used his colorful personality to his advantage. Mr. Landreth was a Veteran of the US Army serving state-side during the Korean Conflict and obtained the ranking of Staff Sergeant. A member of the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia, Phil enjoyed participating in lay activities that were not limited to but included speaking to and teaching Sunday school classes. In addition, Phil was nearly a 50 year member of the Kiwanis Club, a membership of which he did not take lightly, as he was always working to recruit those he came in contact with. Phil was a three time past president, past secretary, past Lieutenant Governor, and a Hixon Award Winner.Indian Guides and Girl Scouts piqued Phil’s interest when it came to helping out with his children’s activities as they were growing up, simply because it involved being around people. In later years, Phil enjoyed being around his grandchildren as they participated in their activities and was always quite proud of everything they accomplished.Phil used his love for people to his advantage, as it made him a natural salesman who worked for many years for the Prentice Hall Company selling books to Law offices and businesses alike. Phil is survived by his wife, Barbara; a Son, Steven Landreth of the Youngstown Area; a daughter, Laura L. (Craig) Williams of Dover; and three grandchildren, Cassandra, Scott and David Williams.In addition to his parents, Phil is preceded in death by a brother, David “Dale” Landreth.The family will receive friends in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 from 4:00 â?? 7:00PM. A service remembering Phil’s Life will be led by Reverend Dr. Steven Bailey on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 11:00AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. The family would like to invite guests to stay for a luncheon to be held in the Hospitality Room following the service.
