Peter J. Scalambrino, age 84 of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, April 8 2008, in his home following a lengthy illness.Born November 24, 1923 at Roswell, Peter was the son of the late Frank and Mary Coletti Scalambrino.Pete was a 1942 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and following graduation he entered into the United States Army where he served the European Theatre in the 44th Infantry as a radio operator. Following his tour of duty, Pete married the former Ruth Hall, whom he would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on the 26th of April. For many years Pete and Ruth enjoyed square dancing. On occasion, Pete found great enjoyment in calling dances. Aside from being a lifelong resident of New Philadelphia, Pete was also a lifelong member of Holmes United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia. Pete’s interests also include playing softball and gardening on his 3 acre farm which he and his wife have resided for the past 59 years.For over 36 years Pete was an employee of the former Rigid Tool Company (I.F. Sales) until his retirement in 1986.In addition to his wife, Ruth, Pete is survived by a daughter, Sandy K. (Mark W.) Cox of New Philadelphia; a son; Pete F. (Pam Winsch) Scalambrino also of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Parry (Araceli) Scalambrino of Texas, Parnel (Hannah) Scalambrino of California, Patrick Scalambrino of Georgia and Patrice Scalambrino of New Philadelphia.Pete will be missed by his four great grandchildren, Kiley, Jared, Vincent, and Brooke. Completing the family are three brothers, Nick (Carol) Scalambrino of New Philadelphia, Anthony (Louise) Scalambrino of Magnolia and Charles (Marie) Scalambrino of California and one sister, Florence Zuchegno of Dover.In addition to his parents, Pete is preceded in death by one sister Theresa (Scalambrino) Schlegel and a brother in law, Daniel Zuchegno.The family will receive friends on Thursdsay, April 10, 2008, from 5:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Funeral services will be led by Pastor Roger Warnes in the funeral home’s chapel on Friday, April 11, 2008 beginning at 10:30 AM.
