Peter Granato

Peter P. Granato, 86, of Allen Lane NE, New Philadelphia, died Friday at Akron, Ohio, following a long illness. Born February 23, 1917, at Dennison, Ohio, he was a son of the late Anthony and Carmella Granato. Pete retired from the Timken Company at Canton, Ohio where he had worked for 39 years. Prior to his illness, he attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. His wife, the former Bettie L. Shearer, died in 1993. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edward “Brenda” Teter, a granddaughter, Mrs. Derek “Tina” Lee, and a great grandson, Liam Lee, all of Akron, as well as a brother, Sam Granato, of Uhrichsville, and sisters, Mary Pallas, of New Philadelphia, and Jenny Leonard of Dover. Seven brothers and sisters are deceased. Services will be held on Wednesday, January 28, at 1:30 PM in the chapel at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia with Msgr. George Schlegel officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
