Pete J. Maurer

Pete J. Maurer, 72, of Dover, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2023 in Cleveland Clinic-Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health.

Born at Dennison, Pete was the son of the late Dalbert and Dortha (Thrall) Maurer and following their deaths, was raised by his aunt and uncle Dorothy and Horace Hummel. Pete graduated from Garaway High School at Sugarcreek in 1969 and had retired from the Pepsi-Cola Company where he worked as a service manager.

Pete was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church at Uhrichsville and was a former member of the New Philadelphia Elks Lodge #510. In his spare time, Pete enjoyed riding his motorcycles, working on cars, and going camping with his family.

On January 22, 1977, Pete married Bonnie Hammond, and together they shared over 46 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Pete is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Zach, and Valerie Maurer of Dover; his sister, Sinda Parsons of Canton and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 10:30 AM in Dover Burial Park at Dover with Pastor Larry Malterer officiating. The Geib Funeral Center at Dover has been entrusted with Pete’s service arrangements.
