Penelope "Penny" Martin

Penelope J. “Penny” Martin, 68 of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully in her home on March 18, 2023 after a period of declining health.

Born November 18, 1954, Penny was the daughter of the late Laverne and Joyce Schilling.

She was the one who ran the Childrens Caravan Teddy Bear Run in Dover for 25 years to give back to sick children in Akron Childrens Hospital, and handicap ramps for children, wheelchairs and more. She gave back with all her heart. Thousands of people came every year, from all over on their motorcycles with Teddy Bears to take the ride to Akron Childrens Hospital. She worked years for Goodwill helping individuals with job placement, and contributed much time helping the Rolling Thunder Veterans, with food pantry and all others in need. She was most proud of loving and raising her sons, Patrick and David and her grandson Larry Michael.

She is survived by her husband, Larry D. Martin, with whom she celebrated 43 years of marriage. Patrick (Amy) Martin of Charleston, WV; and grandson, Larry Michael Martin. Brother and sisters, Jan (Donna) Schilling of Middletown, OH, Angela (Tom) Kerns of Niles, OH and Joyce (Jim) Lawrence of Macedonia, OH.

In addition to her parents, Penny is proceeded in death by her son, David James Martin and brother, Jim Schilling.

Graveside services will be held April 7, 2023 at 1 PM at Evergeeen Burial Park in New Philadelphia.
