Peggy Lou Gibson

Peggy Lou Gibson, 72, of New Dawn Health Care Center of Dover, formerly of New Philadelphia, died peacefully late Wednesday evening.She had been afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis for more than twenty years.Born in Scio, Oh, August 1, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Grace Lynn Lightner. Peggy graduated from Scio High School before marrying Byron Gibson on October 27, 1951. Shortly thereafter, the couple relocated to New Philadelphia. Byron preceded Peggy in death on May 8, 2000. Peggy was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church, and the Mary Martha Sunday school class there. She also worked at Goshen Dairy, The New Philadelphia Elks kitchen, and in the cafeteria for New Philadelphia schools. During their forty-eight years of marriage, Peggy and Byron raised a daughter, Gay (Brian) Crilow of West Lafayette, Oh; and three sons, B. Chris Gibson of Beach City, J. Lynn (Sharon) Gibson of New Philadelphia, and Timothy Gibson, who preceded his parents in death in 1997. Peggy will be missed by three grandchildren, Kyle G. Crilow of New Concord, Oh, Kristen Crilow of West Lafayette, and Jeffrey Lynn Gibson II of New Philadelphia; two sisters-in-law; Mary Lightner, and Marilyn Gibson Rogers, both of Bowerston; and the wonderful and kind staff and nurses of New Dawn health Care Center who cared for Mrs. Gibson for more than a decade. Friends are invited to call Sunday afternoon from 1-3 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia. Rev. William Sowers will lead a funeral celebrating Mrs. Gibson’s life Monday morning at 10:30 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial, alongside her husband, will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. The ladies of the Broadway United Methodist Church will host a reception in the fellowship hall at the church following the committal service.
