——————————————————————————–Paul Verdun Altvater, age 60, of New Philadelphia, died late Sunday evening, March 30, 2008, in Union Hospital at Dover. Born at Zanesville, Ohio, May 22, 1947, he was a son of the late Paul V. Altvater and Mary Evelyn Jane Booth Altvater. Paul enjoyed spending time outside tending to gardens and fishing. He delighted in parties whether for birthdays or to celebrate holidays. Most of all, Paul enjoyed listening to his radio. Mr. Altvater had formerly been affiliated with Starlight Workshop, and Avenue’s of Adventure. He attended First Baptist Church, and for the past twenty-five years, has resided at the Kaderly Group Home operated by Horizons. He leaves behind his caregivers and fellow residents at Kaderly, as well as brothers Thomas Roberts of Mt. Joy, Pennsylvania, Richard Staley of Zanesville; and two half-brothers, Wesley Baumberger of Florida, and Carl Barmberger, also of Florida; uncles, Ralph Altvater of Nebraska, Ray Altvater of Cambridge, and Gene Altvater of Florida, an aunt, Phyllis Altvater of Cambridge. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins complete the family. Friends are invited to call Friday morning from 10 â?? 11 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Dave Millard will lead Mr. Altvater’s funeral at 11 AM in the Funeral Center. A reception will follow in the hospitality suite. Cremation will follow with interment at East Avenue Cemetery.
